The 2026 Knight Frank Wealth Report highlights the extraordinary pace of global wealth creation as the number of ultra high net worth (UHNW) individuals  (those with more than US$30 million) continues to grow, despite global economic and political turbulence.

According to the latest report, the number of UHNWIs reached over 713,000, with the US continuing to account for the largest share of the world’s richest individuals. The report also highlights how UHNW growth continues to accelerate across the Middle East and Asia as the world’s wealth landscape continues to shift.

The Knight Frank Wealth Report, which is now in its 20th edition, offers in-depth insights and data on how the world’s wealthiest audiences, including UHNWIs, are growing, moving, and spending, making it essential reading for anyone operating in the luxury sector.

At Relevance, we have been tracking the behaviours, lifestyles, and consumer habits of UHNWIs for nearly 20 years, helping hundreds of luxury brands develop watertight marketing campaigns that accurately target and resonate with the world’s most affluent audiences.

Here, we take a look at some of the key highlights from the Knight Frank 2026 Wealth Report and what this means for luxury marketers.

2026 Knight Frank Wealth Report: Key takeaways

  • 89 people became UHNWIs every day in 2025, demonstrating the dramatic surge in this exclusive cohort
  • Between 2021 and 2026, the global wealth population has risen from 551,435 individuals to 713,626, providing extraordinary opportunities for ultra-luxury brands
  • The US is home to 41% of newly minted UHNWIs, making it a key luxury market
  • There is dynamic UHNW growth in India and China, areas that luxury marketers should plan to target in the not too distant future
  • The outsized economic influence of the world’s ultra-wealthy continues to grow
  • Reflecting the growth in UHNWIs, 2026 saw a global rise of 3.2% in luxury residential prices, with the Middle East leading with a 9.4% surge
  • There are now 3,110 billionaires in the world, with Asia Pacific holding the largest share

For luxury brands, these numbers signal a profound and accelerating shift in where wealth is being created, held, and spent, and, crucially, they underscore the need to continually revisit and refine targeting strategies to stay ahead of that curve.

For luxury marketers, knowing that a UHNW audience exists is only half the challenge; knowing precisely where they are, how they think, and what drives their spending decisions is what separates effective campaigns from expensive ones.

As the global wealth map becomes increasingly complex, with new pockets of prosperity emerging alongside established strongholds, a granular, location-informed approach to UHNW marketing has never been more important. Regional nuances in culture, aspiration, and lifestyle mean that a strategy built for New York will not necessarily resonate in Riyadh or Singapore, and brands that fail to account for this risk may miss some of the most significant growth opportunities of the decade.

North America dominates

Looking at the UHNW population by region, North America dominates with 37% of the global population, followed by Asia-Pacific with 31%, Europe with around a 25% share, the Middle East with around a 3% share, and Latin America and Africa with around a 2% share each.

The US remains the world’s leading UHNW destination

Overall, the US continues to dominate the world as the leading ultra-wealthy destination, and is set to see the number of UHNWIs rise by more than 136,000 over the next five years, reflecting the depth of the US’s wealth-creation infrastructure, especially in tech and finance.  The US is currently home to around 35% of all UHNWIs, with this concentration set to increase to around 41% by 2031.

For luxury marketers, this sustained dominance reinforces the importance of maintaining a strong, culturally attuned presence in the US market. However, it is worth noting that American UHNWIs are among the most discerning and marketing-literate audiences in the world. Cutting through requires sophisticated, insight-led campaigns that speak to individual values and aspirations, rather than broad assumptions about wealth.

China remains a consistent UHNW hub

China remains a consistent UHNW hub, although its share of UHNWIs has slipped from 18% in 2021 to 17% in 2026.

While this marginal decline may reflect short-term economic headwinds, China’s absolute UHNW population remains significant, and the country continues to be a critical market for luxury brands with a long-term global outlook. Marketing to Chinese UHNWIs demands a deep understanding of local platform ecosystems, shifting generational attitudes towards luxury, and the continued evolution of Chinese consumers’ relationship with Western brands.

New UHNW markets

The Knight Frank 2026 Wealth Report also identifies several new emerging markets, led by rapidly maturing economies. These include Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Vietnam, Sweden, Romania, and Greece. The overall picture, the report notes, is one of wealth broadening geographically, even as it continues to concentrate in a handful of countries.

For luxury brands, these emerging UHNW destinations present both an opportunity and a challenge. Many of these markets are at an earlier stage of luxury consumption maturity, meaning that the brands which invest now in building awareness, relevance, and trust stand to benefit disproportionately as wealth in these regions deepens. Waiting until these markets reach critical mass risks ceding ground to competitors who were willing to take a longer view.

One particular powerhouse is Australia, with its UHNW population set to surge by 60% over the next five years to 26,095 individuals. Even more compelling is the fact that Australia’s billionaire population is forecast to grow by 77% over the next five years – a rate of growth that should place Australia firmly on the radar of any luxury brand with serious global ambitions.

India has already witnessed rapid growth, with its UHNW population surging by 63% in the past five years. This growth is set to continue over the next few years, although the report notes that it will be more measured, with a projected growth rate of around 27%. India’s UHNW population is estimated to be 19,877, with that number expected to rise to 25,571 by 2031.

India’s ultra-wealthy are a particularly dynamic audience;  entrepreneurial, globally connected, and increasingly confident in their own cultural identity. Luxury brands that approach India with generic messaging will struggle. However, those who invest in genuinely understanding the nuances of Indian UHNW life will find an audience that is engaged, aspirational, and growing rapidly.
